South African Wine, a journey of discovery
Wine critics and wine lovers around the world are getting excited about South African wine. Neal Martin reckoned the country is going in a very positive direction, more eclectic and diversified; while Tim Atkin MW remarked that the emergence of a young generation of wine-making talent makes South Africa the most dynamic wine-producing country in the world right now.
Although the market share of South African wine in Hong Kong is still small, it is one of the fastest growing markets according to The Drinks Business. Last year we saw two new importers setting up shops here with a focus on South African wine, while established companies are expanding their South African portfolios. Most of these importers are listed on WOSA’s website.
What’s more, importers are not only focusing on the classic grape varieties from established regions but also lesser known wines and blends from new regions and young winemakers. These combinations of old and new, classic and creative, are exactly what make South African wine in Hong Kong exciting. Imagine all the different wine styles from the well established Klein Constantia and Kanonkop to the young guns such as Rall Wines and David & Nadia. I am happy to only drink South African wine for a year!
Wines of South Africa will be having its annual tasting on 20th April. See for yourself if you agree with me.

Discover South African Wine Annual tasting

A celebration of South African wine and food. This year more than 30 exhibitors will present over 200 wines from Swartland to Elgin. There will also be what I believe the highest number of South African wineries representatives in town outside wine fairs. Some of them will be sharing their passions and wines with guests at the snappy speakers' corners. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience all these amazing wines first hand!
